Metal Shavings in GrandlandX Oil: Warning Signs Explained
Summary of the thread
A 2020 Vauxhall GrandlandX Hybrid owner noticed metal particles in the oil and a warning light on the speedometer cluster, raising concerns about potential oil pressure issues. A similar case with a 2017 Vauxhall Crossland X Hybrid revealed that the problem was due to a deteriorating oil pressure control valve cable harness, leading to intermittent sensor readings. The recommended solution was to replace the cable harness assembly and clean the oil pressure control valve, which resolved the issue. The owner followed this advice, resulting in a successful repair and resolution of the warning lights and metal particle issue.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! Really helpful to know what happened with your Crossland. By the way, do you remember roughly how much the repair set you back? And has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Just trying to get an idea of what I might be in for with my Grandland. Thanks again!

Hey again! Yeah, no problem at all! I actually just got it sorted last month, the final bill came to 350€ for replacing that faulty cable harness on the oil pressure control valve. It was all oily and messed up, just like I suspected. The best part? Since getting it fixed, my Crossland's been running like a dream! Not a single warning light or issue with the oil pressure control, it's like night and day difference. Honestly, while the bill wasn't exactly pocket change, it was worth every penny to get it sorted properly. I mean, when you think about potential engine damage, 350€ is actually pretty reasonable. Just make sure you get someone who knows their stuff with hybrids, that's super important. If you're still looking for a reliable mechanic, I'd be happy to share where I got mine done. They really knew what they were doing with the hybrid system. Hope this helps give you a better idea of what you might be looking at! Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks so much for all the details! I bit the bullet and took my Grandland to the mechanic you recommended today. You were spot on about getting someone who knows hybrids, they found the exact same issue with the oil pressure control valve cable harness! The repair cost was a bit more for my model, around 400€, but they got it done in just one day. No more metal particles in the oil, and all those annoying warning lights are finally off! The mechanic was really thorough and explained everything clearly, such a different experience from my last garage. Really grateful for your advice, you saved me from stressing out even more about this. The car's running perfectly now, and I feel much more confident about the whole situation. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction! Take care!

Hey there, I had a similar issue with my 2017 Vauxhall Crossland X Hybrid last year. The metal particles in the oil combined with the warning lights definitely rang a bell. In my case, it turned out to be the oil pressure control valve cable harness that was deteriorating and getting soaked in oil. When I brought it in, the mechanics found that the cable insulation was breaking down, causing intermittent oil pressure sensor readings. They had to replace the entire cable harness assembly and clean out the oil pressure control valve. It was a legitimate issue that needed immediate attention to prevent potential engine damage. While yours might be different, I'd recommend getting it checked ASAP. The metal particles especially aren't something to ignore, it could indicate internal wear. I got mine fixed at the Vauxhall main dealer since hybrid systems need specific expertise. They sorted it out in about a day and a half. Just make sure whoever looks at it has proper hybrid certification. These powertrains are quite different from conventional engines.
