Metal Shavings in Mokka Oil: Major Warning Signs

Thanks for sharing! I'm at 14645 KM and just had my service last month. The metal shavings are quite fine, almost like silver dust, and I noticed them when wiping the dipstick. Really worried about this as it's been a reliable car until now. I was thinking about taking it to the Vauxhall specialist you mentioned, did they run any specific diagnostics before fixing yours? I've heard these sensors can be tricky to diagnose properly.

Hey again! Thanks for those details about your Mokka. Actually, when I had my Crossland checked, they did run a full diagnostic scan first, standard procedure at my specialist. Cost me about 60€ but it was worth it to pinpoint the exact issue. The fine metal shavings you're describing sound pretty similar to what I found in mine, but I've got to be honest, in my case, it turned out to be more than just the sensor. The connection issue was one thing, but my mechanic also found some wear in the timing chain (I was at about 16000 KM when this happened). The metal particles were coming from there. I ended up paying around 800€ for the whole repair job, sensor connection AND timing chain replacement. Not fun for the wallet, but way better than letting it get worse! Given that you're at 14645 KM, which isn't far off from where I was, might be worth getting both checked. My advice? Don't wait too long, I learnt that these things can get expensive really quick if you ignore them. The specialist I used did a great job explaining everything with photos and all. Want me to share their diagnostic process? Might help you know what to expect when you take yours in.

Thanks so much for the detailed info, really appreciate you sharing your experience! That's actually super helpful about the timing chain, wasn't even considering that could be the source of the metal shavings. I would love to hear more about their diagnostic process, but I think I'd better get this checked out ASAP rather than wait around. Going to call the specialist tomorrow morning. A bit nervous about the potential cost now that you've mentioned the timing chain possibility, but you're right, better to fix it now than deal with bigger problems later. The similarity in our mileage and symptoms is pretty striking. I'll keep everyone posted on what they find. Thanks again for all your help with this!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2019 Vauxhall Crossland. The oil warning light kept coming on out of nowhere, even though the oil level was fine. Turned out to be a faulty oil level sensor cable connection. Got it fixed at my local Vauxhall specialist, they replaced the connection and it cost me around 165€. Haven't had any problems since then. Before jumping to conclusions though, what's your current mileage and when was your last oil change? Also, those metal shavings you mentioned are concerning, could you tell me more about how much you found and what they look like? This might help pinpoint if we're dealing with the same issue or if there's something else going on.
