Micra diesel particulate filter issue

Hi, I've got a 2000 Nissan Micra diesel with a problem. It's done about 38093 km. A warning light's come on, engine power is down, and there's smoke when I accelerate, plus a strong exhaust smell. I'm thinking it might be the diesel particulate filter, maybe exhaust pressure is too low? Anyone else had this?

Hey, I have a Micra too, though I can't remember the year. Your problems sound very familiar! I had similar symptoms – warning light, sluggishness, and the exhaust smell was awful. Have you tried forcing a DPF regeneration? It might be worth a shot before getting worried about pressure sensors. Might be worth a try.

Thanks! Could you tell me about the regeneration process you tried? And were your symptoms exactly the same, including the smoke on acceleration and the warning light?

I didn't force a regeneration myself; I took it to a workshop and they ran a diagnostic. Turned out the exhaust back pressure sensor was defective. The symptoms were pretty much the same as yours though. The workshop said that a faulty sensor can cause all sorts of issues with the DPF. I'd suggest having a mechanic check the sensor before you spend too much time trying other things.

Thanks a lot for sharing that. I took your advice and brought the car to a workshop. The sensor was defective and needed replacement. The repair cost was 245€. Your input really helped get it sorted quickly.
