Micra Ignition Problems
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Nissan Micra diesel was experiencing intermittent starting issues and shutting off while driving. The dashboard lights appeared normal, leading to uncertainty about the fuses. A suggestion was made to check the ignition system fuse, which was found to be defective. Replacing the fuse resolved the issue, and the car is now running smoothly.

That's helpful. Could you tell me where I might find the fuse for the ignition system? I had a look at the fuses, but I couldn't identify which one it might be. And no, the dashboard light does not flicker at all.

I don't know the exact location of the fuse in your Micra. It's usually in a fuse box under the steering wheel or in the engine compartment. You'll need to check your car's manual. If you can't find the right fuse, or if replacing it doesn't solve the problem, I would strongly suggest taking it to a qualified mechanic. Playing around with the electrics can be risky.

I found the correct fuse diagram in the end, and it turns out that the fuse for the ignition was indeed defective. I replaced it, and so far, the car seems to be running perfectly again. The fuse cost me 2€ and I paid 50€ for the roadside assistance guy to find the correct one. If the problem reappears, I will definitely take it to a mechanic, but for now, it seems to be resolved.

I had a similar problem with my old Renault, although that was a petrol engine. The symptoms you describe sound awfully familiar. In my case, it turned out to be a defective fuse. Have you specifically checked the fuse related to the ignition system? It might be worth pulling it out and seeing if the little wire inside is broken. Also, does the dashboard light flicker or dim when you turn the key?
