Micra transmission issue
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Nissan Micra diesel is experiencing a transmission issue, being stuck in park and not starting, with a check engine light on and a transmission error code. The problem may be due to a faulty transmission sensor or a park brake issue. A similar case suggested that a defective transmission control unit or sensor might be the cause, and professional diagnosis is recommended. The issue was confirmed to be a defective control unit, requiring replacement.

The error code is kinda vague, something about 'transmission control malfunction.' I was hoping it was just a sensor, but I'm not sure which one to check. Where was the sensor located on your Megane, and how did you figure out it was the problem?

Right, a vague error is the worst. I wish I could give you exact details, but it was a while ago. From what I remember, the sensor was somewhere on the transmission itself, but honestly, I wouldn't start poking around without proper knowledge. Given your symptoms and the error code, it really does sound like a control unit or sensor issue. I would take it to a workshop. It sounds too complex to diagnose without the proper tools and experience. You don't want to risk making things worse.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I think you're right; I'm in over my head. Booked it in at the garage. The control unit is defective and needs replacing. Quoted about 1000€, which is a killer, but at least I know what's wrong. Cheers again!

That sounds frustrating! I had a similar experience with my old Renault Megane. Same symptoms – wouldn't start, error codes related to the transmission. In my case, it turned out to be a dodgy sensor on the transmission. Does the error code you're getting point to a specific transmission sensor, or is it more generic?
