Mini Cabrio AC Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Mini Cabrio owner experienced issues with the air conditioning system not activating and an error stored in the memory. The mechanic suggested that undervoltage might be causing the A/C compressor to fail. Another individual with a similar experience recommended checking the AC relay and battery, as a faulty relay could lead to undervoltage. The problem was resolved by replacing the AC relay and checking the belt tensioner, restoring the air conditioning functionality.

Thanks for the quick reply! Interesting about the AC relay... Where is that located exactly? And when you say undervoltage, did you have other electrical issues as well, or just with the A/C compressor?

Yep, just the A/C playing up. The AC relay is usually in the fuse box under the bonnet – check your manual for the exact location. I'd still get it properly diagnosed. Could be the A/C compressor itself, or even the belt tensioner acting up and dragging the system down, but the undervoltage thing points to the relay. Honestly, for peace of mind, take it to a workshop. They'll sort out the gremlins in your air conditioning.

Big thanks for the help! Turns out it was undervoltage. The A/C compressor kept shutting off. I got it sorted at the shop – new AC relay and they checked the belt tensioner. Cost me around 240€. Happy to have my air conditioning back!

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had almost the exact same problem with my Mini Cabrio too – though mine's a bit older. A/C system just quit, error code city. They initially suspected the A/C compressor, but it turned out to be a dodgy AC relay causing an undervoltage issue. Did you check the simple stuff, like the relay and the battery?
