Mini Cabrio Alarm System Malfunction

Argh, this is driving me nuts! My 2012 Mini Cabrio diesel is playing up. The anti theft alarm system is going completely bonkers. Error stored in the error memory, alarm system without function. Anyone ever had this happen? Could the alarm system coded to activate optical locking be the cause?

Summary of the thread

A 2012 Mini Cabrio diesel experienced a malfunctioning anti-theft alarm system, with an error stored in the memory and the system not functioning. The issue was potentially linked to the alarm system being coded to activate optical locking, which could cause conflicts and false alarms. The solution involved consulting a qualified workshop to diagnose and recode the alarm control, resolving the problem by disabling the feature that activated the blinkers on locking.

Considering your Mini Cabrio's age and mileage, a malfunctioning alarm system could stem from several sources. Have you checked the car battery recently? A weak battery can cause erratic behavior in electronic systems, including the alarm. Also, are there any signs of damage to the alarm sensor or wiring? These could be potential culprits. You mentioned it's coded to activate optical locking, is this something recently enabled or changed?

Optical locking? Is that really a thing that messes with the alarm system on these things? I've never heard of that. How would something like that even cause the alarm to go haywire?

Indeed, the optical locking feature, while seemingly benign, can sometimes interact negatively with the alarm system. If improperly configured or if there's a conflict in the coding, it could trigger false alarms or system malfunctions. The best course of action would be to consult a qualified workshop. They can diagnose the issue accurately and recode the alarm control if necessary.

Dude, you nailed it! Just got my Mini Cabrio back. Turns out the alarm control was coded to activate the blinkers on locking, which was causing the system to freak out. A quick recode at the workshop for 45€ and the security alarm is back in business. Big thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
