Interesting, a faulty fan speed controller. Where is that located? And how would I check the electrical wiring?

Yep, sounds familiar. In my case, the workshop confirmed it was the controller. I'm not sure about the exact location on your electric model, but it's usually near the blower motor, under the dash. Honestly, unless you're really comfortable with electrical work, I'd suggest letting the pros handle it. Messing with the air circulation system can be tricky.

Thanks for the insight! Dropped it off at the workshop. They confirmed it was the blower motor, just like you suspected. 365€ later and I've got fresh air again.

I actually had a similar problem with my Mini Cabrio. The cabin fan just quit. It turned out to be the fan speed controller. Have you checked the electrical wiring going to the blower motor? Sometimes a loose connection can cause it to fail intermittently. Also, does the HVAC system seem to be working otherwise?
