Mini Cabrio check engine light and water sensor issue
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Mini Cabrio owner experienced a check engine light and rough engine performance, with an error memory indicating a water sensor malfunction. The suspected cause was a defective cable or plug connection. After consulting with others, it was suggested to check the cable and plug connection to the moisture sensor near the air intake. The issue was confirmed to be a faulty connection, which was repaired at a workshop, resolving the problem.

Yes, I read something similar in the error memory. But could you be a bit more specific? Where exactly is this moisture sensor located, and is it something I can check myself without special tools?

It's located near the air intake. While you could check it, it's probably best to leave it to a workshop. The diagnostic tools can pinpoint the exact issue. It sounds like it's probably just a bad connection, but best to be sure.

Thank you for your advice. I took my Mini Cabrio to the workshop, and it turned out to be exactly as you suggested: a faulty connection on the moisture sensor. The auto electronics were quickly repaired, and the malfunction indicator is off now. The total repair cost was 95€. Thanks again!

I had a similar issue with my Mini. The rough running and the check engine light are definitely annoying. Have you checked the cable and plug connection to the moisture sensor? In my case, that was the electrical fault.
