Mini Cabrio Diesel Engine Issues

Alright, car gurus, I've got a head-scratcher with my 2011 Mini Cabrio diesel. It's got about 94000 km on the clock. The check engine light keeps popping on, and the engine occasionally stalls at idle. Also, feels like I'm not getting the full power I should. The mechanic suspects a defective fuel volume regulator, possibly caused by a dodgy high pressure pump. Anyone else run into this? It's driving me nuts!

I had a similar issue with my Mini. Check engine light kept coming on, and the engine would sometimes stall when I was stopped. It felt like an engine misfire. Have you checked the fuel filter? A clogged filter can sometimes cause the fuel regulator to act up.

Thanks for the quick response! I haven't checked the fuel filter specifically, but the mechanic mentioned something about the high pressure pump potentially being the culprit. He said it could be affecting the fuel regulator's performance. What exactly does the fuel regulator do anyway? And did replacing your fuel filter solve the problem?

Replacing the fuel filter didn't fix my issue. The fuel regulator controls the fuel pressure going to the engine. If the high pressure pump is failing, it could definitely cause problems with the fuel regulator and lead to those symptoms. I ended up having to take it to a workshop. They diagnosed a faulty high pressure fuel pump. It's not cheap, but it solved the problem.

Just wanted to close the loop on this fuel regulator issue with my Mini Cabrio. Turns out the high pressure pump was indeed defective, just like you suspected. Had to bite the bullet and get it replaced. Grand total came to 1510€. Ouch! But at least the check engine light is off and it's running smoothly again. Thanks for your help!
