Wiring appears intact. Where exactly is the fuel level sensor fuse located? And do you remember the fuse number?

Mine was definitely a faulty sensor. I didn't mess with it myself, I took it to a workshop. They diagnosed it pretty quickly. I'd advise doing the same.

Confirmed fuel level sensor issue on my Mini Cabrio Diesel. Fuse was indeed defective. Replaced it; total cost 52€. Thanks.

I had a similar issue with my Mini. Check engine light, stalling, and a fuel gauge that was all over the place. Did you check the wiring to the fuel tank? Sometimes it gets corroded.
