Mini Cabrio Diesel Symptoms
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Mini Cabrio diesel is experiencing reduced engine power and smoke emissions, suspected to be caused by a defective diesel particulate filter (DPF). These symptoms are consistent with DPF issues, as confirmed by another owner who faced similar problems. The recommended solution is a filter replacement, as DPF cleaning may only offer a temporary fix. After replacing the filter, the vehicle's performance returned to normal.

Interesting. Was it definitely the diesel filter in your case? And did you attempt a DPF cleaning, or did you go straight for filter replacement?

Yes, it was definitely the diesel filter causing my woes. I didn't try DPF cleaning; my mechanic advised against it, saying it's often a temporary fix. He suggested a filter replacement was the more reliable option in the long run. Perhaps a visit to a workshop is in order?

Huge thanks for the insights! It was indeed the diesel particulate filter. Vehicle inspection confirmed it. Ended up opting for a filter replacement since DPF cleaning didn't seem promising. Cost me 1550€. At least the engine light is gone and the Mini Cabrio is back to its old self.

Sounds like a DPF issue, I had similar symptoms with my Mini. Reduced engine power and smoke, especially when accelerating, are telltale signs. Has the engine light come on? I'd suggest checking the diesel filter first.
