Mini Cabrio Electronic Parking Brake Issue

Alright, I've got a head-scratcher with my 2011 Mini Cabrio. The electronic parking brake has completely stopped working. The dash is lit up with the warning light, and there's an error stored in the memory. I'm suspecting a defective electric motor in the brake caliper, but before I drop 500€ on a repair, I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this. I've checked the obvious things like the brake switch, but no luck. Any thoughts?

I had a similar issue with my Volvo a while back. Electronic parking brake malfunction, same symptoms – error message, warning light, no function. Did you perform brake diagnostics already? Perhaps a faulty brake sensor or even just a system glitch?

Interesting. You mentioned brake diagnostics. Did the Volvo throw any specific codes pointing to a particular brake sensor, or was it more of a general parking brake error? I'm just curious if the diagnostics helped pinpoint the faulty motor directly.

In my case with the Volvo, the diagnostic codes were quite vague, unfortunately. It pointed to a general parking brake fault, not specifically the motor. Given your symptoms and the fact you’ve already checked the brake switch, I would lean towards the motor as well. It's probably best to get a professional opinion from a workshop to confirm before replacing parts.

Just wanted to update this thread. Took the Mini to the workshop, and you were spot on – defective motor in the caliper. Replaced the caliper, and the parking brake is functioning normally again. Thanks for the insights!
