Cleaning the throttle body? Is that something I can do myself, or is it best left to a professional? Where is the IAC valve located? And what exactly does 'heavily contaminated intake' mean?

Cleaning the throttle body is doable yourself with the right tools and some cleaner, but if you're not comfortable, a shop can do it. The IAC valve is part of the throttle body. By 'heavily contaminated intake' I meant a lot of carbon buildup. If cleaning doesn't fix it, you might need a new air valve. I would go to the workshop.

Thanks for the help. The shop confirmed it was a heavily contaminated intake causing the IAC valve to malfunction. They cleaned the throttle body and replaced the air valve. Cost me 425€, but the engine stalling is gone and the check engine light is off.

I had something similar with my Mini Cabrio. Check engine light and engine stalling. Could be the IAC valve. Have you looked at cleaning the throttle body?
