Mini Cabrio engine woes
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Mini Cabrio with 110,000 km is experiencing engine issues, including a check engine light, excessive fuel consumption, stalling when idling, and smoke during acceleration. The suspected cause is a faulty mass air flow (MAF) sensor. After consulting with others who had similar problems, it was confirmed that replacing the MAF sensor resolved the issues, restoring the car's performance.

Really? Was it the exact same symptoms? I'm pulling my hair out here. How did you finally figure out it was the MAF sensor? Did you try cleaning it first or just replace it?

Yep, almost identical. The check engine light was the giveaway, plus the rough running. I didn't mess with cleaning it, just went straight to the workshop. They confirmed it was the MAF sensor and swapped it out. Problem solved immediately.

Just wanted to let you know that you nailed it. The workshop confirmed the MAF sensor was the culprit. New sensor installed, air filter replaced while they were at it, and the car is running like a champ again. 365€ lighter in the wallet, but totally worth it. Thanks again for the help!

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my Mini Cabrio. Check engine light, rough idle, and the fuel consumption was terrible. It was the MAF sensor for me too.
