Mini Cabrio Fuel Consumption and Starting Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Mini Cabrio is experiencing increased fuel consumption and poor starting. A friend suspects a defective throttle valve or accelerator pedal module as potential causes. Cleaning the throttle valve is considered as a temporary solution, but a workshop visit confirms the accelerator pedal module is the issue, leading to its replacement.
Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't tried cleaning the throttle valve yet, to be honest. Where exactly is it located, and is it something I could do myself without messing things up? Also, what should I be looking for when checking the air filter?

Yeah, cleaning might help temporarily, but if the accelerator pedal module is faulty, it's likely a permanent fix will be needed. I tried the cleaning route, but the problem came back after a while. Eventually, I had to get the module replaced. Considering your friend's diagnosis, I'd say take it to a workshop to get it properly checked. They can confirm if it's the module and give you an accurate repair quote.

Just wanted to give you a quick update. Took my Mini to the workshop, and you were spot on! They confirmed it was the accelerator pedal module causing the throttle valve issue. Repair cost me 205€, which is what I expected. Thanks a bunch for your help, really appreciate it!

Hey there! Your issue sounds really familiar. I had a similar problem with my Mini Cabrio not too long ago. Higher fuel consumption and poor starting were exactly what I experienced. Have you tried cleaning the throttle valve? Sometimes carbon buildup in the air intake can mess with the throttle position and cause those symptoms. Also, when was the last time you checked your air filter?
