Mini Cabrio preheating lamp issue

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Mini Cabrio a while back. The preheating lamp stayed on, and the check engine light lit up. Have you checked the cable connections to the preheating control unit itself? A defective connection can cause all sorts of problems with the vehicle heater and the ignition system.

Thanks for the quick response! Where exactly is the preheating control unit located, and what should I look for when checking the cable connections? Any specific things to pay attention to?

Yes, it really sounds like the same problem I had. On my Mini, the preheating control unit was near the engine preheat system. Check for any loose connections, corrosion, or damaged wires. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, it might be best to take it to a workshop. They can diagnose it properly and replace the defective part if needed.

Thanks for your help! I had it checked out at the workshop, and it was indeed the preheating control unit. The defective part and labor cost me 95€. Now it's running smoothly again, no more smoke and the preheating lamp is off.
