Mini Cabrio Rain Light Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Mini Cabrio is experiencing issues with its rain-light sensor, affecting the automatic wiping mode, headlight control, and speedometer dimming. The suspected cause is bubbles forming under the gel pad of the windshield, interfering with the sensor's functionality. The suggested solution is to check the sensor connection or replace the sensor if necessary. Ultimately, replacing the sensor resolved the issue.

Thanks for the suggestion. Could you please elaborate on how to check the connection? I'm familiar with basic car maintenance, but I'm not an expert when it comes to car electronics.

Yeah, I think you're on the right track with the sensor itself. If the gel pad is bubbled, it's probably messing with the sensor's ability to 'see' properly. Honestly, for something like that, I'd probably just bite the bullet and take it to a workshop. Car electronics can be tricky, and you don't want to make things worse.

Just wanted to update you. It was indeed the rain-light sensor. The gel pad had bubbles under it. Replaced the sensor for 62€ and everything is working correctly again. Thanks for your input.

Sounds like a pain. I had a similar electrical fault in my old car, though it wasn't the rain sensor specifically. Have you checked the connection to the auto sensor? Maybe it's just loose.
