Mini Clubman ABS Fault

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2017 Mini Clubman. The ABS lamp is constantly lit, and the ABS system is not functioning. The error memory indicates a lateral acceleration sensor fault, and the suspicion is a defective control unit. Has anyone encountered something similar? I wanted to get a sanity check before committing to the 1000€ repair.

ABS and traction control lights usually point to sensor issues. I had a similar problem with my Mini. First thing I'd check is the sensor connections themselves. Have you run a diagnostic scan to pull the specific error codes? That'll give you a better idea of what's triggering the safety warning.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did run a diagnostic scan, and it's showing a lateral acceleration sensor fault. It is pointing to a defective control unit. Were you getting the same error? Did you end up replacing the entire unit?

Yep, same error. I tried cleaning the sensor first, but no luck. Eventually, I had to replace the entire electronic control unit. Given the diagnostic scan result, I'd say it's likely the same issue. You're probably looking at a workshop visit.

Just an update. I took the Mini Clubman to the shop, and they confirmed the lateral acceleration sensor fault. The electronic control unit was indeed defective, just like you suspected. Repair cost me about 1000€. Everything is working fine now. Thanks for your help!
