Mini Clubman Air Conditioning Problems

I'm at my wit's end with my 2012 Mini Clubman! It's only done a few kilometers, and I'm encountering a really strange issue. There's an error stored in the error memory, and an error message keeps popping up on the speedometer. To top it all off, the air conditioning system refuses to switch on. I suspect something is going on with the temperature sensor. Could it be that the air conditioning control unit is defective? Has anyone experienced anything similar? I am a bit worried about the temperature gauge too...

Summary of the thread

A 2012 Mini Clubman is experiencing air conditioning problems, with an error message appearing on the speedometer and the system refusing to switch on. The issue is suspected to be related to the temperature sensor, possibly indicating a defective air conditioning control unit. After consulting a service center, it was confirmed that the temperature sensor heat exchanger was defective, causing the HVAC system issues. The repair will cost around 980€, but it will restore the air conditioning functionality.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

That's a puzzling situation. I'm no expert, but I had something similar happen with my old vehicle from another brand. The temperature gauge was acting weird, and the air conditioning wouldn't kick on. Have you checked the vehicle maintenance records for any recent sensor calibration? Just thinking out loud here, but maybe that could be a factor?

Sensor calibration, you say? That's interesting. I haven't specifically looked into that. Could you perhaps elaborate a bit on how that might relate to the air conditioning system not switching on in my Clubman? I'm just trying to understand the connection. I had a look at the temperature gauge and it seems to be normal...Does that still mean that the sensor needs calibration?

Well, I'm still learning myself, but from what I gathered, a faulty sensor can sometimes throw off the whole system's readings and trigger the air conditioning to shut down as a safety measure. However, I have no idea on the Mini. Given the error messages, it's possibly more than just calibration. Probably best to bring the vehicle to a workshop.

A massive thank you for your input! I took it to a recommended service center, and it turned out, after a bit of head-scratching, that the temperature sensor heat exchanger was indeed defective, leading to all sorts of issues with the HVAC system. It's going to set me back around 980€, sadly. At least now my Mini Clubman will be back to normal, and I can use the air conditioning again. I am glad it wasn't a coolant leak too!
