Mini Clubman anti theft alarm issues

Okay, so I'm officially losing it with my 2019 Mini Clubman diesel. The anti-theft alarm system is totally bugging out! The error memory has an error stored, and the alarm system itself is just... not working. I'm talking completely without function. The car has km on it. Anyone else had this happen? I'm worried about the security alarm and the car's immobilizer. Any ideas before I end up paying a fortune to fix this thing? I just got the thing!

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Mini Clubman diesel owner is experiencing issues with the anti-theft alarm system, which is completely non-functional and has an error stored in the error memory. A suggestion is made to check for recent power failures or issues with the immobilizer, although the car starts fine, indicating the immobilizer is likely not the problem. The solution involves taking the car to a workshop where the alarm system's coding is checked and corrected, resolving the issue without needing a new alarm system.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

That sounds frustrating! I actually had a similar issue with my Mini Clubman, although it wasn't the diesel version. The security alarm would just out of nowhere go off, or sometimes not work at all when I tried to arm it. It drove me nuts for weeks. Did you check if there was a recent power failure or something that could have messed with the anti-theft system's settings? Also, is the immobilizer working correctly?

A power failure... hmm, not that I know of. But the immobilizer question is interesting. How would I check that? I mean, the car starts fine, so I assumed it was okay. And what do you mean by 'anti-theft system settings'? Is there something I can check myself before taking it to a mechanic?

Since the car starts, the immobilizer is probably fine. By 'anti-theft system settings,' I mean the specific way the alarm is configured. In my case, the alarm system was coded to activate the optical locking indicators when arming or disarming, and that setting somehow got corrupted. Honestly, you probably need to take it to a workshop with the right diagnostic tools. They can read the error codes and see exactly what's going on with the alarm system. It's likely a coding issue rather than a hardware failure. Don't panic yet!

Dude, you were spot on! Took my Clubman to a workshop, and they checked the error memory. Turns out the alarm system was coded to activate optical locking. They recoded it, and the alarm works perfectly now. Cost me 45€, which is way better than a new alarm system! Thanks a million for the help!
