Mini Clubman Automatic Transmission Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Mini Clubman is experiencing automatic transmission issues, including a check engine light, transmission indicator, gearbox slipping, unclean shifts, and grinding noises. The error memory suggests a defective torque converter lock-up clutch, indicating a possible converter failure. The suggested solution is to have the transmission fluid checked and potentially replaced, and to take the car to a workshop to confirm and address the converter failure to prevent further damage.

Interesting. You mentioned an engine surge. Was that happening constantly, or only under certain conditions? And did you also have the check engine light on?

The engine surge was most noticeable at lower speeds, almost like the car couldn't decide which gear to be in. And yes, the check engine light was definitely on. I'd say get it to a workshop asap to avoid further damage.

Just wanted to give you an update. You were spot on! Took my Clubman to the shop, and it was indeed the converter failure in the automatic transmission. Cost me around 2120€, but now it's running smoothly again. Thanks for the help!

Sounds like a converter fault to me. I had similar symptoms with my Mini automatic transmission: engine surge, unclean shifts. Although no grinding noises. Has the transmission fluid been checked? When was the last time it was changed?
