Mini Clubman automatic transmission issues

Alright, car gurus, I've got a head-scratcher. My 2007 Mini Clubman, with almost 90000 km on the clock, is giving me some serious grief. The automatic transmission is behaving implausibly, like it doesn't know what gear it wants to be in. The transmission indicator light is on, and it's definitely not shifting as usual, and it seems to be stuck in emergency mode. Could this be related to the transmission oil? Any ideas what's going on?

Whoa, that sounds rough! I had something kinda similar happen with my Clubman. The automatic gearbox was acting all kinds of weird. You know, that slipping transmission feeling? It was like the car couldn't decide what gear it wanted to be in. Does that sound familiar? Have you checked the transmission oil level? That's hydraulic fluid, by the way, and low levels can cause problems.

Slipping transmission, yeah, that's a good way to describe it! You mentioned checking the transmission oil level... is that something I can easily do myself, or is it more of a workshop job? I'm not exactly a mechanic, haha.

Yeah, that slipping transmission feeling is the worst! Honestly, unless you're comfortable working on cars, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. They can properly check the transmission oil and see if it needs an oil replacement. My problem ended up being low oil, and once they topped it off, it was like new. Saved me a ton of worry!

Thanks a bunch for the help! Took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. Turns out the automatic transmission oil was worn out, most likely due to undervoltage. Had the oil replaced, cost me 240€, and it's shifting smoothly again. Appreciate the advice!
