Mini Clubman battery alarm system defective

Alright, so I've got a bit of a head-scratcher with my 2017 Mini Clubman. The mileage is sitting at 139456 km. I'm getting a "battery alarm system defective" error. The alarm system isn't working at all. I'm wondering if anyone has run into something similar, or if you have any tips before I take it to a shop? I'm suspecting the auxiliary battery might be the culprit as I read somewhere that ageing could be the reason and that is causing the battery to discharge.

I had a similar battery problem with my Mini Clubman. The battery alarm kept popping up, and it turned out to be a faulty auxiliary battery. Have you done a battery check on that one specifically? It's separate from the main car battery and is responsible for the alarm system and some other functions. A system diagnosis might be the best way to pinpoint the issue.

Thanks for the quick response! When you had the battery problem, did you also experience any other weird electrical issues, or was it just the battery alarm? And how did you figure out it was the auxiliary battery specifically? Did you do the system diagnosis yourself, or did a mechanic do it?

Yes, the only thing I noticed was the alarm acting up. I didn't try to diagnose it myself, to be honest. I took it straight to the workshop, and they confirmed it was the auxiliary battery after running a system diagnosis. Given that you're getting the same error, it's highly likely that's the cause. Best to get it checked out by a workshop to be sure.

Just wanted to give an update – you were spot on! Took the Mini Clubman to a workshop. System diagnosis confirmed it was the auxiliary battery causing the battery alarm issue. They replaced it and cleared the error memory. Cost me around 330€. Everything's working fine now, alarm system is back in action. Thanks a lot for your help!
