Mini Clubman Diesel Exhaust Issue

Alright, I'm officially stumped. My 2022 Mini Clubman diesel is throwing a warning light in the speedometer. I'm also seeing smoke when accelerating, and the DPF regeneration is completely blocked. I'm leaning towards a defective exhaust back pressure sensor. Has anyone else encountered this? I've checked the usual suspects, but I suspect this is the root cause of all evil. It feels like the exhaust system is choking. Any insights before I commit to the auto repair bill?

Summary of the thread

A 2022 Mini Clubman diesel was experiencing a warning light on the speedometer, smoke during acceleration, and a blocked DPF regeneration. The suspected cause was a defective exhaust back pressure sensor, leading to a choking exhaust system. After consulting with others who had similar issues, it was confirmed that replacing the faulty sensor resolved the problem, allowing the DPF regeneration to function properly again.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds like a familiar problem! I had something similar happen with my Skoda a while back. Exhaust system issues are never fun. Does the smoke smell particularly strong, almost acrid? When my pressure sensor went bad, it was like the car was trying to tell me something in its own smoky language. Could be the auto repair will just replace the exhaust sensor.

Interesting. Did you also have the DPF regeneration failing? And the warning light constantly on? Was it an easy fix or did it require some serious auto repair work?

Yep, DPF regeneration was a no-go, and that pesky warning light was my new dashboard companion. It wasn't a major auto repair job, thankfully. Replacing the pressure sensor resolved everything. If you are sure it's the sensor, just go to the workshop. They will know what to do.

Right you are! I took it to the auto repair shop, and as suspected, the exhaust sensor was indeed defective. New sensor installed, total cost 245€. DPF regeneration is running smoothly again. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
