Mini Clubman Diesel Issue Preheating and Smoking

My 2007 Mini Clubman diesel has an odd issue. The preheating lamp won't switch off and the check engine light is on. Plus, it smokes when accelerating. Could be the preheating control unit is defective, maybe a cable or plug issue?

Sounds like a preheating unit issue. I had something similar with my Clubman. Does the engine run rough?

Yeah, rough idling. Mine did that plus the heating module seemed shot. I'd get it checked at a workshop.

Thanks for the advice. It was indeed the preheating unit. An electrical fault in the ignition system. The defective part was replaced for 95€.
