Mini Clubman fuel flap refuses to open

Okay, I'm officially losing my mind over this fuel flap situation on my 2008 Mini Clubman! It just refuses to open. I've got 62573 km on the clock. The error memory is showing a fault, and locking/unlocking is impossible. Even some other functions are acting weird now! My mechanic mentioned it could be a defective linkage, but the repair cost is like 210€! Does anyone have any experience with this fuel door madness? Is it the lock actuator? The fuel door? Cable release? Key fob issue? HELP!

Summary of the thread

A 2008 Mini Clubman owner is experiencing issues with a fuel flap that refuses to open, along with other erratic functions. The problem might be linked to a defective linkage or lock actuator, as suggested by a mechanic. Another person with a similar issue recommended checking the lock actuator, especially if the central locking system is also malfunctioning. Ultimately, the problem was confirmed to be the lock actuator, which was resolved at a workshop for 210€.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds mighty familiar! I had a similar head scratcher with my Clubman. Is your central locking playing up at all? For me, the fuel door started acting up around the same time my key fob seemed less responsive. Could be a dodgy lock actuator, or maybe even a frayed cable release if you have one.

Hmm, interesting point about the central locking! I hadn't really connected the two. How did you narrow it down to the lock actuator, and was it a DIY fix or did you end up taking it to a workshop?

Yep, the symptoms sound spot-on. My key fob was occasionally being a pain too. I didn't fancy messing with it myself – too many wires! I'd say get it checked; sounds like the lock actuator is goosed. Better safe than sorry!

Just wanted to close the loop on this fuel door saga. As you suggested, I took it to a workshop. They ran diagnostics and, yep, the lock actuator was the culprit. 210€ later, and it's working perfectly again. Thanks for confirming my suspicions!
