Mini Clubman generator fault

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my Clubman. Reduced engine power, warning lights, and a hard time starting. Did you check the charging system voltage? Is your serpentine belt in good condition? A failing alternator can definitely cause those symptoms. Have you considered testing the starter motor?

The charging system voltage appears low upon inspection. The serpentine belt seems fine, showing no obvious wear. But, when you experienced this, was the car completely unable to start at times, or was it just a struggle? And did the error memory also point specifically to the generator?

Yes, mine eventually wouldn't start at all some days. Other days, it would struggle. And the error codes pointed directly to the alternator. Honestly, I'd suggest getting it to a workshop to confirm. It does sound like the alternator to me though.

I appreciate you sharing your experience. It seems my suspicions were correct. The Mini Clubman is now back from the workshop. Indeed, the generator was defective. The alternator replacement, including labor, amounted to 960€. Hopefully, this resolves the issue permanently.
