Mini Clubman Jerking and Stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Mini Clubman diesel is experiencing jerking during acceleration, a check engine light, reduced engine power, stalling at idle, rough running, and a strong exhaust smell. The suspected cause is a defective intake manifold, possibly due to scorching. A suggestion to check for a vacuum leak or a gasket leak in the air intake is made. The issue is confirmed to be a leaking intake manifold, which is repaired, resolving the problem.

Thanks for the quick reply! When you say vacuum leak, where exactly should I be looking? And did you also experience the rough running and strong exhaust smell? My diesel is driving me nuts!

Yes, the rough running and exhaust smell were definitely present. Given your description, especially the error codes and jerking, it strongly points to a leak in the intake manifold. Best bet is to get it properly diagnosed at a workshop though.

Update on my Clubman: you nailed it. Took it to the shop, and the intake manifold was indeed leaking due to scorching. 1180€ later, she's running like new. Massive thanks for the heads up!

I had a similar issue with my Mini Clubman. Symptoms sound very familiar. Have you checked the manifold sensor or for a vacuum leak? A gasket leak in the air intake can also cause these problems.
