Mini Clubman Lighting Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Mini Clubman diesel with 78,538 km is experiencing a lighting fault where the lights switch on randomly, and an error is stored in the system. The suspected cause is a defective cable or plug connection in the lighting system. Suggestions include checking the fuse box and dimmer switch, but ultimately, a workshop visit reveals a dodgy connection in the lighting system, which is cleaned and secured, resolving the issue.

Thanks for the quick reply! The fuse box was the first place I looked, and all the fuses seem to be fine. You mentioned the dimmer switch – did your dashboard lights actually flicker or go out completely when you had the issue? I'm not seeing anything like that, just the main lights acting up and the error code.

Yeah, mine was doing the same thing with the main lights. No flickering or anything with the dashboard lights, just the headlights cutting in and out. Honestly, I'd still lean towards a connection issue somewhere in the lighting circuit. If you're not comfortable tracing the wiring yourself, probably best to get it checked out at a workshop. Could save you a lot of time and potential headaches.

Just wanted to give a quick update. Took the Clubman to the workshop, and it turned out to be a dodgy connection in the lighting system, just like you suspected. They cleaned it up, secured the connections, and everything's working perfectly now. Total cost was 95€, which is a relief. Thanks again for your help!

That sounds frustrating! I had a similar electrical problem with my lights a while back. I'd check the fuse box first, make sure none of the fuses related to the lights are blown. Also, have you tried fiddling with the dimmer switch for the dashboard lights? Sometimes that can cause weird issues. Keep me posted!
