Mini Clubman Low Oil Pressure
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Mini Clubman diesel is experiencing low oil pressure, indicated by a warning lamp and loud mechanical noises from the engine. The suspected cause is oil pump failure. Suggested solutions include verifying the oil grade, checking the oil filter for clogs, and using an oil pressure gauge to confirm the issue. Ultimately, a mechanic confirmed the oil pump failure, and the repair cost was 755€.

Oil is correct spec. Filter was changed recently. How did you confirm oil pump failure?

The warning lamp coupled with engine noise does point to oil starvation. I performed the oil change and filter replacement as preventative maintenance, but the low pressure persisted. A mechanic then confirmed the oil pump was faulty. Given your symptoms, a workshop visit is highly recommended. Prolonged low oil pressure can damage the engine bearings, leading to much more expensive repairs.

Low oil pressure on a Mini Clubman can be concerning. I had a similar issue manifest itself a while back. What weight oil are you using? An oil change with the correct grade is always the first step. Also, have you checked the oil filter? A clogged oil filter can restrict oil flow. Finally, have you hooked up an actual oil pressure gauge to verify the pressure? The warning lamp can sometimes be triggered by a faulty sensor.
