Mini Clubman Overheating Issue

I am experiencing an issue with my 2021 Mini Clubman diesel. The engine is overheating, and I suspect a problem with the electric fan. My hypothesis, based on some preliminary inspection, is that either the cable or plug connection to the component is defective, leading to impaired operation of the electric fan. Has anyone encountered a similar issue? Any insights would be greatly appreciated before I take it in for professional service.

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Mini Clubman diesel is experiencing engine overheating, suspected to be due to a problem with the electric fan. The initial hypothesis is a defective cable or plug connection affecting the fan's operation. Suggestions include checking the fan motor relay and ensuring the fan is receiving consistent power. The issue was confirmed to be a defective plug connection, which was repaired, resolving the overheating problem.

I had a similar issue with my Clubman, although it wasn't the diesel version. Symptoms sound very familiar. Have you checked the fan motor relay? It's a simple thing to rule out before diving deeper. Also, is the electric fan running at all, or is it intermittent? Intermittent issues are often a pain to diagnose because the temperature control system doesn't always flag it right away.

Thanks for the suggestion regarding the relay. Where is that located, and is it easy to test? The electric fan seems to operate sporadically, which is why I suspect a loose connection rather than a completely dead fan motor. When you mention temperature control, do you mean the thermostat or something else related to the cooling system?

The relay location should be in the engine bay fuse box; the manual will show the exact location. As for temperature control, I was referring to the engine's overall system that manages heat. If the fan is intermittent, it strengthens the possibility of a loose connection. Like a light bulb that flickers, it's not completely dead, just not getting consistent power. It's probably worth getting it checked professionally as it could lead to bigger issues with the cooling system.

Just wanted to provide an update. The issue was indeed a defective plug connection, as suspected. The electric fan was not receiving consistent power, leading to the overheating. Repair cost was 95€. Thanks for your advice, it was very helpful!
