Mini Clubman Solar Sensor Error

Alright, I'm getting an error code related to the solar sensor on my 2017 Mini Clubman. The car has just under km on it. The heating output isn't great, and the error memory points to a solar sensor fault. I'm getting the impression the cable or plug connection of the component could be defective. Does that sound right? I don't want to start tearing things apart if I'm barking up the wrong tree. Also it looks like the repair might be around 95€, is this in the right ballpark?

The symptoms you describe certainly point towards a fault with the solar sensor circuit. Before condemning the sensor itself, a thorough inspection of the wiring harness and connector is warranted. Specifically, examine the connector pins for corrosion or damage, and ensure the wiring is not chafed or broken. Have you checked the signal voltage from the sensor using an oscilloscope to determine if the sensor is actually outputting an erroneous value? Is the fault code intermittent or consistently present?

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I did a visual inspection of the wiring and connectors and didn't see anything obvious, but I don't have an oscilloscope to check the signal voltage. Where exactly is the solar sensor located so I can double check the plug?

You are most welcome. Given the information at hand, specifically the stored fault code and the associated symptom of reduced heating output, it is highly probable that the solar sensor or its associated circuitry is indeed the root cause. The predicted repair cost of 95€ aligns with a straightforward sensor replacement. Considering you lack the instrumentation to perform in-depth diagnostics, proceeding with a sensor replacement at a qualified workshop is the most expeditious course of action.

Huge thanks for confirming my suspicions! I took it to my local garage, and they confirmed it was the solar sensor, just as you suspected. They replaced the sensor, part plus labor came in at 98€. Now the climate control is blowing hot air properly again. Appreciate the help!
