Mini Clubman Stalling Engine Troubles

Okay, I'm officially pulling my hair out! My 2018 Mini Clubman has developed a really annoying problem. The check engine light keeps popping on, and the error memory points to a bad idle air control valve. The worst part is the engine stalling at idle, especially when I'm stopped at lights. I've tried a few basic things, but no luck. Could a heavily contaminated intake really be the cause? Anyone else experienced this stalling engine madness?

That sounds frustrating! I had a similar issue with my Mini Clubman a while back. The engine stalling at idle is not fun. Did you check the air intake for any blockages or excessive dirt? That was the culprit in my case.

Interesting! I hadn't really thought about the air intake specifically. When your engine was stalling, was the idle speed all over the place, or was it just dropping suddenly? And how difficult was it to check the air intake yourself?

Yeah, the idle speed was all over the place, dipping really low and causing the engine stalling. Honestly, I'm no mechanic, so I took it straight to a workshop. They confirmed the air intake issue right away. If you are not sure on how to do it, it's probably best to get it checked out by a professional. Could save you some headaches in the long run.

Just wanted to let you know that you were spot on! Took my Clubman to the shop, and it turned out the air intake was indeed heavily contaminated, which was causing the idle control valve to malfunction. They cleaned it all up, replaced a few gaskets, and now it runs like new. Cost me 425€, but honestly, it's worth every penny to have my car running smoothly again. Thanks a bunch for your help!
