Mini Clubman Transmission Issues

I'm having a bit of a nightmare with my diesel 2020 Mini Clubman. The engine warning light keeps popping up and sometimes the transmission warning light too! I've scanned the error memory, and it's showing a transmission oil pressure sensor fault. The gearbox has gone into emergency mode a couple of times, and I've noticed some slipping and unclean shifts. I even heard some grinding noises when shifting gears the other day! Could this be the oil sensor playing up, or am I looking at something more serious?

Summary of the thread

A 2020 Mini Clubman is experiencing transmission issues, including warning lights, emergency mode, slipping, unclean shifts, and grinding noises. The problem is traced to a transmission oil pressure sensor fault, likely caused by low transmission oil levels. The suggested solution is to have a mechanic check and top up the transmission oil and replace the faulty sensor, which resolved the issue in this case.

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had a similar scare with my Clubman. Engine warning light, the whole shebang. Limp mode is no fun, believe me. First thing, have you checked your transmission oil level? Because that oil sensor is known to throw a fit when the level is low. It's an easy check, and could save you a ton of headache.

Interesting! Where exactly is the transmission oil level dipstick located? Is it easy to get to? I've only ever checked the engine oil level before.

Yeah, there isn't a dipstick for the transmission fluid on our cars. It's a sealed unit. So you can't easily check it yourself. What I did was take it to a good mechanic and tell them about the oil sensor issue. They checked the level properly and bingo, it was low. They topped it up but the sensor was already damaged, so they replaced the transmission sensor as well. I'd recommend doing the same.

Alright, just wanted to give you an update. Took the Clubman to a workshop I trust, and as you predicted, it was the oil sensor! The pressure gauge was giving bogus readings because the oil level was indeed low. They topped it up and replaced the oil sensor. The total damage was 365€, which is honestly less than I expected. Thanks a lot for your help!
