Mini Cooper ABS Fault Lateral Acceleration Sensor Suspected

My 2018 Mini Cooper is throwing me for a loop. The ABS lamp is illuminated, effectively disabling the entire ABS system. Error memory points to a faulty lateral acceleration sensor. From what I've gathered, the affected control unit is likely defective. Is this a common issue, and are we talking about a potential 1000€ repair bill?

ABS lamp illuminated on your Mini Cooper? Have you checked the steering angle sensor? Sometimes that can trigger similar issues with the traction control system. A diagnostic scan is always the first step, though.

Steering angle sensor, you say? Is it possible for a faulty steering angle sensor to directly impact the lateral acceleration sensor's readings, causing the ABS to freak out like this? I was under the impression they were somewhat independent.

The steering angle sensor can influence the electronic stability program, which in turn relies on the lateral acceleration sensor. However, if the diagnostic scan specifically points to the lateral acceleration sensor, it's highly probable that's the root cause. I'd suggest visiting a workshop.

Appreciate the insight. As suspected, it was indeed the lateral acceleration sensor. A diagnostic scan confirmed the fault, and after replacement and a thorough wheel alignment, the ABS and electronic stability systems are functioning correctly again. Cost me around 1000€, as predicted.
