Mini Cooper Automatic Transmission Problem Solved
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Mini Cooper diesel was experiencing issues with its automatic transmission, including erratic shifting and the transmission indicator light being on. The initial suspicion was undervoltage, but it was suggested that the problem might be related to the transmission oil. After consulting a workshop, it was confirmed that the hydraulic fluid was worn out, and replacing the automatic transmission oil resolved the issue, restoring normal transmission performance.

Good question. I didn't check the level, I'll admit. But you really think it's the transmission oil? I thought undervoltage could be the cause. How did you fix the issue?

The symptoms do sound similar to what I experienced. It could be undervoltage, I'm no expert to be certain. However, changing the automatic transmission oil resolved the problem in my case. Given the symptoms and mileage, maybe get the transmission oil checked by a workshop?

Thanks for the insight. Turns out the automatic gearbox oil replacement was indeed the solution. The workshop guys found the hydraulic fluid was worn out. After the oil replacement, transmission performance is back to normal. Total cost: 240€.

Interesting. I had similar automatic transmission issues with my Mini Cooper – the shifting felt really off. The transmission indicator light also came on a few times. Does it happen more often when the engine is cold? Did you check the transmission oil level or condition?
