Mini Cooper Camshaft Position Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
The 2017 Mini Cooper was experiencing poor starting, reduced engine power, and an error related to the camshaft position sensor. The likely cause was identified as a defective cable or plug connection. Suggestions included inspecting the wiring and connector for damage or corrosion and verifying the sensor's signal with an oscilloscope. Ultimately, the faulty camshaft position sensor was replaced, resolving the issue, with the repair cost matching the initial estimate.

Signal with an oscilloscope? I don't have one Where exactly should I be looking for damaged wiring? I am not entirely sure where the sensor is located

Okay, if you don't have access to an oscilloscope, that makes signal verification difficult Regarding the wiring, carefully inspect the entire length of the wire harness leading to the camshaft position sensor Look for any signs of chafing, cracking, or melting Pay close attention to the connector itself; check for bent or corroded pins Given the symptoms and the error code, it seems quite likely the sensor or its connection is indeed the problem At this point, given the estimated repair cost, perhaps bringing it to a workshop would be the best course of action They can perform a more thorough diagnosis and replace the sensor if necessary

That sounds very similar to an issue I had with my previous vehicle, a Volkswagen Engine misfire, check engine light, poor starting were all present In my case, the crankshaft position sensor was the culprit However, a defective camshaft position sensor could certainly cause similar symptoms Have you checked the wiring and connector to the camshaft position sensor for any damage or corrosion? Sometimes a simple visual inspection can reveal the problem It might be worthwhile to also verify the sensor's signal with an oscilloscope, if you have access to one
