Mini Cooper Cooling Grille Restricted Message
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Mini Cooper displayed incorrect temperatures, a check engine light, and slow engine warming, with a "cooling grille restricted" message. The issue was suspected to be related to a fuse problem. After checking the radiator grille for blockages and considering the possibility of active grille shutters being stuck, it was suggested to inspect the fuse box for any blown fuses related to engine cooling or the radiator grille. The problem was resolved by replacing a defective fuse, restoring the car's normal function.

Thanks for the quick response. The radiator grille looks clear, and I'm not sure about the active grille shutters. Where would I find the fuse for the radiator grille? Is it labeled specifically for the radiator grille, or would it be under something else like engine cooling?

Yeah, it's likely a fuse if you're getting that specific error. Check your owner's manual; it should have a diagram of the fuse box and what each fuse controls. Look for anything related to engine cooling, radiator fan, or even active grille shutters. If you find a blown fuse in any of those slots, that's probably your culprit. However, if the fuse blows again immediately after replacement, there's probably a bigger problem and you should take it to a workshop.

You were spot on! Took my Mini to the workshop, and it turns out it was a defective fuse related to the radiator grille. 52€ later, and she's running like new. Thanks for the help!

I had something similar happen with my Mini, though I didn't have the check engine light. The engine was definitely taking longer to warm up, and the temperature readings seemed off. Is the radiator grille itself physically blocked by anything, like debris? Also, do you know if your model has active grille shutters? If so, maybe those are stuck. Have you checked the fuse box to see if there's a fuse specifically for the radiator grille or engine cooling system?
