Mini Cooper Diesel Engine Issues

I'm at my wit's end! My 2014 Mini Cooper diesel is giving me grief. The engine light keeps popping on, the engine power is noticeably reduced, the engine response is terrible, and I'm burning through fuel like crazy! I suspect it's a crankshaft to camshaft reference value issue. Could it be the crankshaft sensor defective? Has anyone experienced this before? What could be causing it?

Engine light and reduced power sounds rough! I'm no expert, but could it be something simple like a dirty cam sensor? Have you checked that?

A dirty cam sensor, huh? Where exactly is that located on the Mini Cooper diesel engine? And would that really cause all these issues, including higher fuel consumption?

Yeah, a faulty cam sensor can definitely mess things up. If the crankshaft sensor is defective, the ECU wouldn't know the exact position of the crankshaft and camshaft, messing up the fuel injection and ignition timing, therefore affecting the engine performance. It might be worth getting it checked by a mechanic, or if you're confident, you could try replacing the sensor yourself.

Just wanted to give an update. You were right, it ended up being the crankshaft sensor. Got it replaced, along with a new timing belt since they were in there anyway. Cost me about 340€ all in. Engine's running smoothly again, no more engine light! Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate it!
