Mini Cooper engine idling rough

My 2018 Mini Cooper is giving me headaches! I've got an error stored in the memory and the engine is idling really rough. My mechanic suspects it's the engine mount possibly a defective cable or plug connection. The estimated repair is around 95€. Could it really be just a loose connection? Is engine mount failure common at this mileage?

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Mini Cooper is experiencing rough idling, with an error code suggesting an issue with the engine mount. The mechanic suspects a defective cable or plug connection, or possibly an internal failure within the mount. A visual inspection for cracks or wear in the rubber part of the mount is recommended. The repair cost is estimated at 95€, and the issue was resolved by replacing the faulty engine mount.

Interesting. I had a similar issue with my Mini a few years back. Also noticed some uneven idling. Was the error code specifically pointing to the engine mount? Have you checked the rubber mount for any visible signs of mount wear or damage? Sometimes a visual inspection can tell you a lot before you even start diagnosing electrical connections. Is the engine mount itself visibly worn or cracked perhaps?

Alright, so the error code points to the mount, but you see no visible damage. The rubber mount is part of the engine mount itself, designed to absorb vibrations. Look closely for cracks, tears, or excessive wear in the rubber. If you can't see anything obvious, and the error code is consistent, it is likely an internal failure within the mount or a connection issue as you suspected. Given the cost estimate, I'd advise having a workshop inspect it, especially the mounting bracket itself.

The error code did point to the engine mount. I didn't see any visible damage though, just the error code and the uneven idle. I'm not really sure what to look for, honestly. You mentioned checking the rubber mount where exactly is that located? And what kind of damage am I supposed to be seeing?

It was indeed a faulty engine mount! The error code pointed them right to it. I ended up paying 95€, which is fine I guess. Thanks a lot for your help and shared experience!
