Mini Cooper Engine Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Mini Cooper with 141,020 kilometers was experiencing engine issues, including a check engine light, reduced power, stalling, increased fuel consumption, and a whistling noise. Thank you for your message. How can I check the intercooler hoses for leaks? Do I need special tools, or is there a specific area I should inspect more closely? Could a faulty throttle body also cause those symptoms?

The whistling and hissing under acceleration, combined with the other symptoms, strongly suggest a wastegate valve issue impacting boost pressure. While a throttle body issue is possible, the combination of symptoms aligns more directly with a wastegate malfunction. I advise you to have the vehicle diagnosed by a qualified workshop.

Thank you so much for the advice. I took my Mini Cooper to a workshop, and they confirmed your suspicion. The wastegate valve was indeed defective. The boost pressure system has been repaired, and it cost me 860€. Now, the check engine light is off, the engine runs smoothly, and the whistling noise is gone.

The check engine light, reduced power, stalling, and whistling all point to a boost leak. Have you inspected the intercooler hoses? A crack there would explain the symptoms.
