Mini Cooper engine issues

I am experiencing some quite unsettling problems with my 2016 Mini Cooper diesel. It has approximately 75373 km on the clock. Sometimes the engine simply refuses to start, other times it just shuts off while I'm driving. Also, I noticed that the engine is running quite rough. Could this be an ignition switch problem? Is there a fuse I could check before taking it to a mechanic?

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Mini Cooper diesel with approximately 75,373 km was experiencing issues where the engine would not start or would shut off while driving, and it was running roughly. The initial suspicion was an ignition switch problem, possibly related to a fuse. After checking the fuses, it was discovered that a defective ignition switch fuse was the cause. Replacing the fuse resolved the engine issues, allowing the car to run smoothly again.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a very similar issue with my Mini Cooper some time ago. The engine would refuse to start intermittently, and sometimes it shut off while driving. I remember the dashboard light flickering as well. I would suggest that you check the fuses related to the ignition switch and the starter motor. It might be a simple fix.

Thank you for your reply! Which fuse exactly did you have to check? And where is it located? I'm not very experienced with car electrics, but I am willing to give it a try before taking it to the workshop.

I am glad that I could help. In my case, it was indeed a fuse related to the car ignition. I think it was labeled 'ignition switch' or something similar in the fuse box diagram. The fuse box is usually located in the engine compartment or under the dashboard. However, if you are not comfortable working on it yourself, I strongly recommend taking your Mini Cooper to a qualified workshop for diagnosis.

Just wanted to update you. It was indeed a defective fuse! The ignition switch fuse was the culprit. Replaced it myself, cost me 52€ and now my Mini Cooper is running smoothly again. Thanks a lot for your advice!
