Mini Cooper engine problem

Hoping someone can help. My 2023 Mini Cooper has developed some car problems. The check engine light is on, fuel efficiency has gone down the drain, and the engine is idling unevenly. I suspect it might be the knock sensor. Could a defective cable or plug connection be the reason? Any ideas before I take it in for auto repair?

I had a similar issue with my Mini Cooper some time ago. The symptoms you describe – check engine light, reduced fuel efficiency, and rough idling – sound very familiar. In my case, it was also related to the knock sensor. Have you checked the wiring and connections to the sensor itself? Sometimes, a loose or corroded connector can cause these issues. Do you have the error code?

Okay, with error code P0325 and your description, it strengthens the suspicion about the knock sensor or its wiring. Given your experience level, I would recommend a visit to a workshop. They can properly diagnose the issue and check the sensor and wiring with professional tools. It could save you time and potential further damage. In my case, I tried to fix it myself, but ended up creating even more problems. It's often better to leave it to the professionals. The repair costs you estimated seem realistic.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did have a look at the wiring, but I'm not really an expert. It all looked okay to me, but I might have missed something. Where exactly should I be looking for corrosion or loose connections? And yes, the error code is P0325.

Got my Mini Cooper back from auto repair. It was indeed the knock sensor cable. The repair set me back 95€, which I think is fair. Thanks a lot for your help! Your input was spot on.
