Mini Cooper Error Codes and Faults

Alright so, my 2012 Mini Cooper is throwing some codes, and it's got me scratching my head. I'm getting error messages on the infotainment system and speedometer, plus a stored fault code in the system. The check engine light is on, of course. Mileage is at 174197 km. I suspect it might be incorrect vehicle coding, but I'm not 100 percent sure. Anyone dealt with this before?

Summary of the thread

A 2012 Mini Cooper was experiencing error codes, messages on the infotainment system and speedometer, and a check engine light. The suspected cause was incorrect vehicle coding. After visiting a workshop, it was confirmed that the control module's coding was incorrect. The issue was resolved by reprogramming the module, clearing the fault code, and the check engine light was turned off.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Interesting. I had a similar issue with my Cooper; although it's not a 2012 model. The malfunction indicator light kept popping up, and the OBD-II scanner showed some weird fault code related to the car's computer. Did you recently have any work done on the car's electrical system, or perhaps any software updates?

No recent work or updates that I'm aware of. The error message popped up out of nowhere. When you say 'similar issue,' was the eventual cause also the car's coding? And did you need to replace any parts, or was it just a reprogramming fix?

Yes, in my case, it was definitely the coding. The garage said something about the control module needing to be reconfigured. I didn't need any new parts, luckily. If it's just the coding, hopefully, you won't either. Though, honestly, it's best to get it checked at a workshop. They can pinpoint the exact cause and ensure everything is set up correctly.

Took your advice and went to the workshop. Turns out the car's coding was indeed messed up somehow. They recoded the control module, cleared the fault code, and the check engine light is gone. Cost me 360€, but at least it's fixed! Thanks again for the help, really appreciate it.
