Mini Cooper Fuel Consumption and Starting Issues

I come to you with a concern regarding my gasoline-powered 2020 Mini Cooper. I have observed that my vehicle exhibits higher fuel consumption than previously experienced. Furthermore, the vehicle start is proving to be problematic. I suspect that the throttle valve may be defective, perhaps due to a defective accelerator pedal module. Has anyone encountered a similar predicament? What are your thoughts?

Summary of the thread

A 2020 Mini Cooper is experiencing higher fuel consumption and starting issues. The suspected cause is a defective throttle valve or accelerator pedal module. A suggestion to check for carbon buildup on the throttle body and consider cleaning it was made. Ultimately, the issue was confirmed to be a defective accelerator pedal module, which was repaired at a workshop, resolving the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Higher fuel consumption and poor starts sound familiar. I had similar symptoms in my Mini Cooper. Have you checked the throttle body for carbon buildup? A simple throttle cleaning might solve the problem. Is the engine light on?

Throttle cleaning, huh? I've heard of that. Is it something I can do myself, or am I better off taking it to a professional? What exactly does a 'throttle body' even do?

Cleaning it yourself is possible, but you need to be careful. Plenty of videos online show the process. However, if you are not mechanically inclined, you could damage the throttle body. I recommend going to a workshop. They will diagnose it properly. It sounds like you have a defective throttle valve. In my case the car throttle was the problem and the whole engine throttle went crazy.

Thanks for the insight. Took it to a workshop and indeed the accelerator pedal module was defective, as suspected. Repair including parts and labor came to 205€. Now it's running smoothly again.
