Mini Cooper IAT Sensor Problem
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Mini Cooper is experiencing a check engine light and rough running, with diagnostics indicating a faulty intake air temperature (IAT) sensor. The symptoms include reduced engine power and an error stored in the memory. The likely cause is identified as the IAT sensor itself, though wiring issues could also be a factor. The suggested solution is to replace the sensor, which resolved the issue and restored the car's performance.

The temperature reading seems off, but how can I be absolutely sure it's the temperature sensor itself and not something else causing it?

Okay, if the temperature reading is definitely off, and you've got all those symptoms, it's highly likely the IAT sensor. Could be wiring too, but a faulty sensor is the more common culprit. Honestly, for the price of a new sensor and the hassle of testing, you're probably best off just replacing it or taking it to the workshop.

Yep, turned out to be the IAT sensor. Replaced it and cleared the error code. Runs like new. Cost 155€, so not too bad. Thanks for the input.

Check engine light and rough running on your Mini Cooper, eh? Sounds familiar. I had something similar happen a while back, though it was fuel related. What kind of temperature reading are you getting from the IAT sensor with car diagnostics?
