Mini Cooper S Convertible starts badly

Hey guys, I'm currently having a real problem with my Mini Cooper Diesel, built in 2013. The car is a total bitch, the engine stalls, starts badly, has no more power and jerks when I accelerate. Sometimes it won't start at all. The check engine light is also activated. I suspect that it could be the fuel pump. Has anyone had similar experiences and can give me some troubleshooting tips? How did you solve this and what did the garage say? Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2013 Mini Cooper Diesel is experiencing issues with stalling, poor starting, loss of power, and jerking during acceleration, accompanied by an activated check engine light. The suspected cause is a faulty fuel pump, potentially related to incorrect software values. A similar issue was resolved by reconfiguring the software values for the fuel pump, which was a relatively inexpensive fix. The recommended solution is to take the car to a garage for a professional diagnosis and repair.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hi, I'm not an automotive expert but I had a similar problem with my 2011 Mini Cooper S. It really sounds like it could be a fuel pump issue. In my experience, my Mini's engine also stalled and started poorly for no apparent reason. I then took it to my garage and they found that the software values for the fuel pump were incorrect. I had to pay 45 euros for the repair and reconfiguration of the software values. It could be a similar problem with your car. But of course these are just guesses, without exact information about the vehicle it is difficult to say more precisely. Can you provide more vehicle data? Then I might be able to help you better.

Thanks for the quick reply, buddy! That sounds very similar to what you're describing. My odometer is at 176543 km and it's also due for a service. I think I'll follow your advice and just take it to the garage. I really have no idea about software values. I really hope that it's just a minor issue and that I don't have to drop a lot of money to get it back on the road. Thanks again for the tip!

You're welcome, always welcome! Yes, it definitely sounds like a workshop check would be the best course of action. With such a high mileage, problems like this can always happen. Software values are often the problem with such faults, the good news is that it's usually not that expensive to fix - at least it was for me. Hopefully they can solve the problem with your Mini as quickly and cheaply as they did with mine. Please keep us up to date, I can't wait to hear what the garage says. All the best and, above all, good luck!

Thank you for the reassurance! Good to know that it doesn't necessarily have to cost a fortune. I will definitely go to the garage and report back afterwards what they said and what the repair cost was. Thanks again for your help and good advice. Really great! I'll keep you up to date. Take care and see you then!
