Mini Cooper solar sensor fault and weak heating

My 2006 Mini Cooper is showing a solar sensor fault in the error memory. The heating output is also lower than usual. The diagnostic points to a defective cable or plug connection on the component. Any ideas?

I had something similar happen with my Mini. The heating was weak, and it turned out to be related to a sensor. Have you checked the connections to the sensor itself? A loose plug can cause all sorts of weird issues. By the way, are you talking about the sunlight sensor on the dashboard, the one that adjusts the climate control automatically?

Yes, I'm referring to the sunlight sensor on the dash. Where exactly is the plug connection located? Is it easy to access, or do I need to remove parts of the dashboard? I am not sure how to check the cable or plug connection myself.

Yeah, that's the one. Honestly, I didn't mess with it myself. I took it to a workshop. They said the connections were fine, and the sensor itself was the problem. You could try checking the connections, but if you're not comfortable, it might be worth getting it checked professionally. It could save you some headaches. These automotive sensors, especially the HVAC sensor ones, can be tricky, and sometimes require sensor calibration after replacement.

Just wanted to say thanks for the input. Turns out the sunlight sensor was indeed faulty. Got it replaced, including labor, for 95€. Heating is working properly again, and the error code is gone.
