Mini Cooper tailgate malfunction
Summary of the thread
The 2005 Mini Cooper Diesel had a tailgate malfunction, with an error stored in the memory and incomplete opening. The issue was suspected to be due to a defective cable or plug connection, possibly involving the tailgate motor and hall sensor. It was advised to check the sensor wiring, particularly the plug connection, for corrosion. The problem was resolved by replacing the defective cable and performing a sensor calibration at a workshop, restoring the tailgate's functionality.

Thank you for your response. When you suggest checking the sensor wiring, are you referring to the entire length of the cable, or specifically the plug connection to the tailgate motor? Is there a procedure for sensor calibration after replacing the cable?

Yeah, focus on the plug connection first, those can get corroded pretty easily. As for sensor calibration, that might need some special tools. If you're not comfortable with that, I'd honestly recommend taking it to a workshop. It could save you a lot of hassle and potential damage.

I appreciate the advice. I took it to a workshop as you suggested. The diagnostic confirmed a fault in the sensor wiring to the tailgate motor. Replacing the defective cable and a sensor calibration did the trick. The automatic tailgate is now functioning correctly. The total repair cost was 95€, as estimated.

Tailgate hall sensor fault, eh? Sounds like a pain! I'd check the sensor wiring before diving too deep. Is the vehicle sensor itself dirty or damaged? Might be worth a look before you start tearing things apart. Good luck!
